Brady Tkachuk's hat trick goal gave the Ottawa Senators a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday afternoon. It's the third straight win for the Senators, who had to work overtime in each case.

The Sens were 38 seconds away from winning the game in regulation, but Bo Horvat's power-play one-timer forced the extra frame. Horvat blasted a slap shot from the point that found the top corner through traffic.

In overtime, Horvat was in a much different mood. He got booked for a holding call on Tim Stutzle and the Sens scored on the ensuing 4-on-3 power play to win it.

On the winning goal, Shane Pinto sprinted up the right wing and made a perfect, cross-ice pass to Tkachuk. And the captain made no mistake, scoring his third of the afternoon.

Tkachuk was the beneficiary of fine passes on all his three of his goals. Drake Batherson feathered him a perfect backhand saucer pass to send him in alone for his first goal.

In the second period on the power play, Tim Stutzle made a nice pass to the slot to Tkachuk, who hit the goal post. The puck immediately made its way back to Stutzle, and in a carbon copy of the first pass, he slid it to Tkachuk again and this time big number 7 made no mistake.

Ottawa's other goal came from Ridly Greig. Stutzle chipped in with three assists while Batherson had two. Matt Martin, Kyle Palmieri and Bo Horvat scored for New York.

The shots were 33-30 in favour of the Islanders as Joonas Korpisalo earned his 15th win of the season.

With the victory, the Senators avoided a three game sweep in their season series against the Islanders, who had taken the first two games back in October and November. As they fight for their playoffs lives, the Islanders have now lost three straight (0-2-1).

Ottawa is back home tomorrow evening at 6pm against the Carolina Hurricanes.
