The Senators snapped a three-game losing slide with a 5-2 victory in New Jersey on Saturday night.

Why Angus Crooshank Looks NHL Ready

The Ottawa Senators have snapped their three-game losing streak. Their stars and young players all stepped up to contribute in a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils. Thomas Chabot and Mathieu Joseph each had a goal and an assist, and the Senators demonstrated a much-needed resolve that has been missing of late.

The Sens opened the game well, as Mathieu Joseph scored his first shorthanded goal of the season as he broke past the New Jersey defence to beat Jake Allen with a wrist shot.

But the 2nd period started disastrously. Within the first minute, their 1-0 lead was wiped away on quick goals by the Devils from Jesper Bratt and Tomas Nosek.

The Senators responded in a big way, with three goals over the next eight minutes. First, Mathieu Joseph sprung Ridly Greig, who beautifully dangled the puck past Allen to tie the game 2-2.

Less than two minutes later, the Senators reclaimed the lead when recently called up Angus Crookshank scored his 2nd career NHL goal off a one-timer from the right hashmarks.

The Senators weren't done, continuing to push the Devils onto their heels.

They created a 3 on 1 break, finishing it with a Tic-Tac-Thomas Chabot goal on a beautiful sequence to give the Senators a 4-2 lead.

The question heading into the third period was whether the Senators would collapse again. They'd been outscored 9-1 in their last three 3rd periods.

The tables turned on Saturday night as the Senators outplayed the Devils in the final frame. Drake Batherson got the only goal, going bar down with a backhander on Jake Allen to give the Senators a commanding 5-2 lead that they would see through to the end.

Ottawa kept a high-octane offence and power play to the outside all night as New Jersey went 0 for 4 on power play and could only muster 20 shots on Joonas Korpisalo all game.

The Senators are back on Sunday night as they play Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
