Make it five straight losses for the Ottawa Senators. They lost to the badly undermanned Anaheim Ducks 2-1 on Wednesday night. Lukas Dostal was the game's best player, making 29 saves for the Ducks.

Ottawa opened the scoring in the first period on a deflection by Mark Kastelic off a point shot from Artem Zub. But thanks to Dostal, that would be Ottawa's only offensive damage of the night.

The Senators' lead stood until the second period when Ryan Strome’s pass attempt went in off Jake Sanderson. Sens goalie Mads Sogaard had no chance on that, nor did he have much chance on the game-winner on a redirection from Alex Killorn early in the third.

The Senators made a hard push in the third, outshooting the Ducks 18-5, but couldn't get anything past Dostal.

The game was a fine goaltender’s dual between Dostal and Sogaard. With the Ducks being outshot 30-16, Dostal was the far busier of the two. He made several big saves, including a bunch on Sens winger Tim Stutzle. Stutzle got credit for just three shots in the game but it felt like he had about 40.

Ottawa's Matthew Highmore left the game in considerable discomfort with what looked like a shoulder injury after a body check along the boards from the very large Ross Johnston. Thomas Chabot also looked banged up as the game ended. Chabot got tangled up in an awkward-looking battle at the end when he was trying to prevent an empty net goal.

The Sens were without the injured Josh Norris and the recently traded Vladimir Tarasenko, but that was nothing compared to the big absences for the 30th place Ducks.

The Senators will try and snap their five game slide with a game in LA tomorrow night.
