Anton Forsberg Stands Tall in Ottawa Senators 1-0 Overtime Loss In Pittsburgh
Sidney Crosby’s power-play goal in overtime lifted the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 1-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday evening.

However, with just three seconds left in the third period, Ottawa’s Ridley Greig was called for hooking on Crosby. It was a rather soft call, especially in a scoreless game that was heading for overtime.
Former Senator Erik Karlsson made his old team pay, setting up Crosby at the top of the right circle, and the Penguins’ captain made no mistake, blasting a one-timer past Anton Forsberg for the winner.
Forsberg was outstanding, stopping all 33 shots he faced in regulation before Crosby's goal became the lone blemish on his night. At the other end, Tristan Jarry was equally impressive, turning aside all 31 shots he faced to earn the official shutout.
While the final score suggests a defensive grind, both teams generated plenty of chances, combining for 66 shots. Ottawa’s Shane Pinto nearly ended it in regulation, ringing a shot off the post on a late breakaway with 2:22 to play. Jake Sanderson also had a strong opportunity, missing on a shorthanded chance in overtime.
The most notable moment of the opening 40 minutes came late in the second period when Senators captain Brady Tkachuk was shaken up after an accidental neutral-zone collision with Pittsburgh’s Ryan Graves. With just seven seconds remaining in the period, Tkachuk went straight to the locker room but returned to start the third period on the power play.
The Senators played two games in 22 hours, and that began to show in the third period. They did an excellent job of limiting the Penguins’ dangerous chances but struggled to create much of their own, being outshot 14-4.
Ottawa earned a point in the game and continued to be weekend warriors. So far in 2025, the Sens are now 12-2-1 in games played on a Saturday or Sunday.
They now have a seven point lead in the race for the top East wild card spot and the playoff cut line. They'll close the year with eight of their final nine games at home, starting on Tuesday night against the Buffalo Sabres.
