Ottawa Senators fans will soon lose an online resource for keeping track of the team's roster moves and player contracts. How many years are left on Brady Tkachuk's contract? What's Tkachuk's cap hit versus his actual salary? Is Ridly Greig still waiver-exempt? Do the Sens have enough cap room to sign Player X?
Those answers and more can all be found at CapFriendly.com, but not for much longer.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Washington Capitals have agreed to purchase the website for their exclusive use. The sale is expected to officially close sometime after July 5th.
This allows teams, media, and fans a grace period to use the site through the 2024 NHL Draft and the start of free agency. Not long after that, the site will close to the general public.
Friedman reports that some NHL teams had individual agreements with CapFriendly to use some of the website's tools and were recently informed those deals would soon be terminated.
Fortunately, there are reliable alternatives on the market such as PuckPedia.com, a trusted partner of The Hockey News since last year. Need Ottawa Senators team and player info? It's all there at PuckPedia.com/team/ottawa-senators.
