It went right down to the wire, but Claude Giroux isn’t going anywhere.

The Ottawa Senators have officially locked in the veteran winger for another year, announcing today that Giroux has signed a one-year extension for the 2025-26 NHL season. The deal includes a base salary of $2 million, with performance bonuses that could push the total value to $4.75 million.

Giroux was asked at the end of the season about his future with the Senators (Senators on YouTube).

According to PuckPedia, Giroux will make:

- Base salary of $2 million

- Performance Bonuses - possible $2.75 million total:

- $250,000 each for 20/30/60 Games

- $250,000 to make playoffs & 50 GP

- $500,000 to win Round 1, $250,000 to win Round 2, $ 500,000 win Round 3, and $500,000 to win the Cup (minimum 50% GP)

The cap hit will be $2 million with an average annual value of 4.75 million, and the deal contains a no-movement clause.

As with the John Tavares deal in Toronto, Giroux could have gotten a lot more elsewhere, but obviously wanted to stay home.

Now 37 years old, Giroux suited up for 81 games in the 2024-25 season, notching 15 goals and 50 points. Since joining Ottawa, he’s proven remarkably durable, missing just one game across three seasons, while putting up 193 points in 245 games with the club.

“Claude brings veteran leadership and a competitive edge to our group and has been a consistent presence on and off the ice,” said Staios. “We are excited to bring him back next season.”

Over the course of 18 NHL seasons, Giroux has put together a stellar career with 1,116 points, placing him 66th on the league’s all-time scoring list.

More details to come.
