According to Elliotte Friedman, as the Ottawa Senators continue to decide on their new head coach, they appear to be very keen on Travis Green.

Things are heating up in the Ottawa Senators' search for their next head coach.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman turned heads in Ottawa today when he implied that Travis Green has emerged as the front-runner.

"So this is what I'm hearing. I'm hearing all eyes on Travis Green here," Friedman said on Sportsnet today. "And look, I want to be careful about this. Nothing is done until it's done. But I'm hearing all eyes on Travis Green. And we'll see what the next few days bring."

According to Frank Seravalli, Green has already been interviewed by the Senators, and based on Friedman's comments, the conversation appears to have gone exceptionally well.

3pm update: An even stronger declaration from TSN's Darren Dreger...

Green took over the Devils' bench near the end of the season when Lindy Ruff was dismissed. Green has yet to be ruled out in New Jersey, but the Devils are talking to other candidates, so they also left Green free to talk to others.

Until this year, he hadn't coached since 2021-22, when he was fired by the Vancouver Canucks in his fifth season on the job.

Vancouver missed the playoffs in three of his four full years there, and the Canucks were on pace for their worst season under Green before the team replaced him with Bruce Boudreau.

In 335 career games as an NHL head coach, Green has 141 wins, 159 losses, and 35 overtime/shootout losses, good for a .443 points percentage.

Senators fans probably remember him best, though not that fondly, as a player in the early 2000s who played an antagonist role in the Battle of Ontario.
