The Ottawa Senators have announced the addition of a third member to their ring of honour. Before Sunday's game against the Edmonton Oilers, Dr. Donald Chow will enter the ring, where his image will be unveiled on a pillar in the 300 section, alongside former GM Bryan Murray and defenceman Wade Redden.
Even though he never coached, managed, or led the team in scoring, Dr. Chow is a deeply worthy honouree, leaving a huge imprint on the club and almost every man who played for it. Chow has been a team physician with the Senators since their expansion season in 1992 and was promoted to Head Physician from 2002 to 2017.
“Dr. Chow has been best in class in his field for more than 20 years,” owner Michael Andlauer said in a club statement. “The hockey club has benefited from having access to his remarkable skills in more ways that we could ever detail. Our players being treated by one of the best doctors in the world has been an incredible gift to this franchise and we’re proud to honour his remarkable legacy by inducting him into the Ring of Honour.”
Along with his work with the Senators, Dr. Chow was Chief Medical Officer of the Ontario Race Physicians, providing trackside medical care to 28 Toronto Indy races. He's also been part of the medical staffs for the Ottawa Lynx Triple A baseball teams and the Ottawa Rough Riders/Renegades CFL teams.
