Along with his Hall of Fame career, Alfredsson has been a champion for local mental health initiatives.

It's been a busy week for Ottawa Senators Hall of Famer Danel Alfredsson.
First, he officially joined the NHL coaching ranks in a full-time capacity. Alfredsson was named this week as an assistant under new head coach Travis Green. After the firing of D.J. Smith in December, Alfredsson became an assistant last season under interim head coach Jacques Martin, but it was unclear if he wished to continue.
Today, Alfredsson was part of uOttawa's 2024 convocation ceremonies at the Shaw Centre, receiving an Honorary Degree from the Faculty of Health Sciences.

uOttawa statement on Daniel Alfredsson:
A leader and a prodigious worker at both ends of the rink, in the NHL and for Sweden, Daniel Alfredsson’s highly successful hockey career led to his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the player category in 2022.
Alfredsson became a Canadian citizen in 2016 and lives in Ottawa with his wife Bibbi, and their four boys. Beyond his hockey legacy, Daniel has made significant contributions off the ice.
He recently received a Meritorious Service Cross from the Governor General of Canada for his work on “You Know Who I Am”, a mental health campaign that strives to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
Daniel Alfredsson's story is one of dedication, excellence and service, and we are honoured to celebrate his achievements with this honorary doctorate.
More well deserved praise for Alfie.
