After being sidelined by an offseason upper-body injury, rugged winger Kurtis MacDermid has been sent to Belleville of the AHL.
The Senators announced late Sunday afternoon that veteran forward Kurtis MacDermid has been assigned to Belleville of the American Hockey League.
The 32-year-old tough guy has yet to appear in a game this season after suffering an upper-body injury over the summer.
MacDermid was acquired from the New Jersey Devils last fall in a one-for-one trade that sent forward Zack MacEwen the other way.
On Saturday morning, Dylan Cozens was asked about his goalless drought to start the season, just hours before finally getting on the board versus the New York Rangers (Senators YouTube).More Videos
The Oct. 2025 deal came shortly after a brawl-filled preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens, when the Senators decided to add some toughness to their lineup.
MacDermid, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 233 pounds, was brought in to provide that physical presence and some protection for his teammates.
But his opportunities have been limited.
MacDermid appeared in just 19 games for the Senators during the 2025-26 season, recording one assist and 33 penalty minutes. He averaged only four minutes and 12 seconds of ice time per game.
With MacDermid now healthy enough to return to action, the assignment to Belleville will give him an opportunity to get some playing time after his lengthy absence.
It remains to be seen whether MacDermid will eventually work his way back into the Senators' lineup.
The B-Sens are back at it next Friday as they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at CIBC Place.
Ottawa, meanwhile, will begin a five-game road trip on Tuesday night in Vegas against the Golden Knights.
