After two straight playoff appearances and the franchise’s strongest start to a season in a decade, Sens head coach Travis Green got a multi-year extension on Monday.
The Senators are obviously pretty happy with the direction the club is headed in under head coach Travis Green.
Green is barely into his third year of a four year deal and he's been signed to a multi-year extension through the 2030-31 season.
Under Green, the Senators ended a seven season playoff drought and made the playoffs in both years of his tenure so far.
This season, they've seen an even bigger commitment to defence and opened the 2026–27 regular season strong with a 6–3–0 record, their best record at the nine-game mark in ten years.
The club also signed assistants Nolan Baumgartner, Ben Sexton, Mike Yeo and goaltending coach Justin Peters to multi-year contract extensions.
In the hired-to-be-fired world of the NHL, it's fair to wonder about the timing. Why not wait until the end of the season and address things then, much the way you would with a player's contract?
But Sens GM Steve Staios is obviously supremely confident about Green and his staff.
“When I was in the search to identify our head coach two years ago, it was clear to me that Travis had the qualities to move our team forward. I have watched him implement systems and structures that have reinforced my belief in his coaching abilities,” Staios said in a club press release. “We share the same vision and philosophy and are confident we can continue to build on our team.”
Green was initially hired as the 15th head coach in franchise history in May of 2024, getting a four-year contract through the 2027–28 season. Including this season, he's now scheduled to be on the job in Ottawa for the next five years.
