Will the Senators Make a Play For LA Kings' Forward Arthur Kaliyev?

Kaliyev is reportedly available on the trade market and was chosen one pick after Shane Pinto at the 2019 NHL Draft.

Should the Senators Make a Pitch for Arthur Kaliyev?

If there's one thing we know about Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer, he's fiercely loyal and likes to work with people he's had success with in the past. From the second he bought the franchise, people began to speculate that he might bring in Steve Staios, his partner in crime from the Hamilton Bulldogs. And sure enough, he did.

Now that he's Ottawa's GM, Staios admits he's been talking about trade possibilities with his rival peers across the NHL. One fairly new possibility is reportedly Arthur Kaliyev, a former 50-goal scorer from that same Hamilton Bulldog team.

Kaliyev played three years in Hamilton and helped Andlauer and Staios win an OHL title in 2018. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Kings could be willing to move the winger for a forward with a little more physical edge.

Nick Kypreos also reported that the Senators and Flames are among the NHL teams that may be interested in Kaliyev.

In 2019, some Senators' fans on social media felt like the club should have taken Kaliyev with their second pick at the 2019 draft. He was the proven goal scorer. Instead, the Sens wisely went with Kaliyev's Team USA teammate, Shane Pinto. It was reminiscent of the choice a year earlier, when the Sens went with Brady Tkachuk when many fans coveted the "proven" goal scorer, Filip Zadina.

Kaliyev has now fallen out of favour in LA with 14 points in 38 games and several recent healthy scratches.

On the latest episode of The Sens Nation Podcast, we discuss whether the Sens should make a play for Kaliyev or not:
