Lassi Comes Home: Senators Reclaim Defenceman Lassi Thomson Off Waivers

After losing him on waivers to Anaheim last week, the Senators reclaimed defenceman Lassi Thomson on Monday.

Lassi Thomson is now back with the Senators organization and, quite literally, a reclamation project.

Last week, due to the numbers game, the Senators had to place Lassi Thomson, Jacob Bernard-Docker and Egor Sokolov on waivers so they could be assigned to Belleville.

Bernard-Docker and Sokolov made it through, but Thomson did not, getting claimed by Anaheim. The Ducks briefly kicked the tires on the former first-rounder but decided he'd be better off with their AHL club in San Diego. But first, they'd need to put him back on waivers. And when they did, the Senators turned the tables and reclaimed their former asset on Monday.

As a reclaim, since no one else made a claim, Thomson won't need to clear waivers this time to be assigned to the AHL.

That's big news for Belleville, which would have had to roll this season without their top two defencemen in Thomson and Max Guenette. Guenette will likely be recalled by Ottawa before opening night so he can provide spot duty as a seventh defenceman.

With today's news, the B-Sens will be anchored this season by the likes of Thomson, Tyler Kleven and Bernard-Docker, who've all proven they can provide NHL support in the event of injury.

Thomson had a career-high 33 points in 56 AHL games last year, second on the team among defenceman. He was drafted by Ottawa in 2019, 19th overall. Still only 23, the organization hopes he still may emerge as an NHL player or improve to the point where he might provide some value in a trade.

In other Sens waivers news, forward Bokondji Imama has been assigned to Belleville after clearing today.
