As the Ottawa Senators continue to try to get their rebuild on track and moving in the right direction, the last thing they needed was more injuries.
As they scuffled into Philadelphia on a three-game slide on Saturday, their two goalies were both sidelined, and worse than that, captain Brady Tkachuk was out of the lineup for the first time in a long time.
Tkachuk's consecutive-games streak came to an end on Saturday at 219 with an upper-body injury suffered in the game on Friday. Tkachuk made the trip to Philly but was scratched from the roster sometime in the afternoon. His streak was the eighth longest in Sens history. There's been no word on how long he'll be out of the lineup.
Defenceman Max Guenette was called up from Belleville and the Sens planned to go with seven defencemen and 11 forwards.
Both Mads Sogaard and Leevi Merilainen also came up from the B-Sens. Anton Forsberg was hurt Friday night and Joonas Korpisalo was a late scratch Friday with an illness.
Tkachuk left Friday's 5-3 loss to the Arizona Coyotes after getting hit by Logan O’Brien in the third period. Tkachuk stayed on the bench and tried to keep playing for a while but then walked to the locker room with just over three minutes left to play.
Tkachuk is in his sixth season with the Senators and has 50 points in 58 games.
