For the second time in three days, the Senators have re-signed one of their prospects playing in the AHL.

If you asked the average Ottawa fan to name the three longest-serving Belleville Senators, Cole Reinhardt probably wouldn't be the first name that springs to mind. But Reinhardt is second among all-time B-Sens in games played (225), behind only Egor Sokolov (240) and just ahead of Lassi Thomson (202).

And Reinhardt will get a chance to add to that total next season.

Ottawa has re-signed the Calgary native to a one-year, two-way contract extension worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $95,000 in the AHL.

Reinhardt just finished his fourth season in Belleville. He scored 23 points in 56 games and added 76 penalty minutes. He had one point in seven games in the playoffs.

“Cole continues to showcase very good skating ability,” GM Steve Staios said in a club statement. “In combination with his size, he’s become an important penalty killer. He’s a good defensive player and one we expect to take another step forward in his overall development in 2024-25.”

Reinhardt is 6 feet, 200 pounds and was a junior teammate of Ridly Greig's for two years in Brandon. The two Wheat Kings were drafted together in 2020. While Greig was Ottawa's third pick of the first round, Reinhardt was the second pick of the sixth round.

Reinhardt made his NHL debut on April 7, 2022, in Ottawa’s home game versus Nashville.
