Ottawa Senators Associate General Manager Ryan Bowness has confirmed that forward Oskar Pettersson will join the Belleville Senators this week. If all goes according to plan, he'll make his AHL debut for the B-Sens in Syracuse this weekend.
Pettersson, who also turns 20 this weekend, was drafted by the Senators in the third-round of the 2022 NHL Draft (72nd overall). He spent the first half of this season with Rogle BK of the SHL.
Bowness says Pettersson is a prospect the organization really likes. Bowness describing him as a reliable winger with very good hockey sense.
"He's played in the last two World Juniors for Sweden and performed well," Bowness said on the club's website. "The plan was originally to have him come over next season, but things have expedited in that regard and this just gives him a bit of a head start on acclimatizing himself to the North American game.:
According to the Swedish website Expressen.se, Pettersson's playing time with his Swedish team has been so limited that Ottawa pushed for him to start his career in North America sooner than planned.
While Pettersson ripped things up in junior for Rogle BK (23 goals in 24 games last year), things have been a little tougher at the next level with Rogle BK Angelholm, where he has just one point in 26 games.
