Detroit Red Wings Snag A Starting Goaltender, Acquiring John Gibson From The Anaheim Ducks Detroit Red Wings Snag A Starting Goaltender, Acquiring John Gibson From The Anaheim Ducks During the midst of the second round of the NHL draft, goaltender John Gibson was traded from the Anaheim Ducks to the Detroit Red Wings. In return, the Ducks received goaltender Petr Mrazek, along with a 2027 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

If the Flyers wanted to add a goalie via the NHL trade market, they just crossed Ducks goalie John Gibson off that list.

Quietly dealt to the Red Wings during the first round of the NHL Draft Friday night, Gibson, 31, fetched the Ducks former Flyers goalie Petr Mrazek, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

Gibson has only two years remaining on his contract at a $6.4 million cap hit, which the Flyers could have easily fit on their books if they wanted to.

Plus, he has the Ducks connection with Trevor Zegras, Nick Deslauriers, and Jamie Drysdale.

And, with only two years remaining, it's not as if he would inhibit them from looking elsewhere if things didn't pan out in Philadelphia.

I suspect Gibson's age may have taken him off the Flyers' radar, but there aren't many other options out there, and Gibson didn't cost the Red Wings all that much at the end of the day.
