Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter has officially been named as one of the five professional hockey players being asked to surrender to Ontario police in connection with the 2018 World Juniors sexual assault case, according to TSN's Rick Westhead.

Earlier this month, news broke that five then-unnamed players were being asked to surrender to police in the ongoing investigation stemming from a lawsuit filed in 2022, alleging that a young woman had been sexually assaulted by multiple members of the 2018 Canadian World Juniors team. Around that same time, five players (four NHL players, one Swiss League player) announced leaves of absence from their teams, although they did not state that their reasons had anything to do with the ongoing investigation.

Per Westhead's report, "two sources familiar with the matter" said that Hart, Michael McLeod (New Jersey Devils), Dillon Dube (Calgary Flames), and Cal Foote (New Jersey Devils) have been instructed to surrender and will be charged with sexual assault. On Jan. 28, Alex Formenton (HC Ambrì-Piotta) turned himself in to be officially charged as well.

London Police Services are expected to hold a press conference on Feb. 5 to update the public on the case.
