Philadelphia Flyers should soon gain a forward who's been sidelined with injury.
On Nov. 28, Noah Cates, 24, was placed on injury reserve with a lower-body injury that was later disclosed to be a broken foot.
Cates finished out his last game vs. the New York Islanders on Saturday. He played 14:12 of ice time, and multiple sources said he played through the game with a broken foot. Head coach John Tortorella told reporters that he was “banged up” and would be out for a while.
He was ruled out until mid-to-late January from initial reports, making his earliest return date Jan. 10, which is less than a week away.
The timeline matches up to recent moves that the Flyers front office mad. Shortly after the Flyers 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday, GM Danny Briere reassigned Rhett Gardner, 27, to Lehigh Valley.
Gardner played in one game over the span of six games he was up with the club, during their west coast road trip and two games into their 4-game home stand.
This in turn, opened up a roster spot for Noah Cates, who will look to make his return against the Montreal Canadiens.
