The Flyers were unable to stay hot after their victory in the season opener.

In the Philadelphia Flyers' Saturday matinee against the Ottawa Senators, franchise legend and longtime captain Claude Giroux received his silver stick after logging his 1,000th career point at the end of the 2022-23 campaign with many of his old teammates — and friends — in attendance.

And then his new club proceeded to have its way with the Flyers at Canadian Tire Centre.

The Flyers fell by a score of 5-2. They were outshot 31-21.

Giroux finished with a pair of assists and a plus-1 rating while winning 64.7% of his draws.

Jakob Chychrun and Brady Tkachuk were on their A-game, potting a pair of goals apiece and terrorizing Flyers defenders throughout the game.

Chychrun was the first to get hot, scoring the first two goals of the game to give the Senators an early lead.

Less than three minutes in, Flyers defenseman Emil Andrae, in his NHL debut, took a big hit from Ridly Greig along the boards behind the net, which dislodged the puck and allowed former Flyer Zack MacEwen to find Chychrun for the icebreaker. Chychrun then scored off a one-timed blast on the power play just after the opening stanza's midway point.

Tkachuk later scored two tallies of his own, including a 5-on-5 marker created by a takeaway by Giroux on Travis Sanheim.

Ottawa defenseman Jake Sanderson also found the back of the net with a power-play goal in the middle frame.

Travis Konecny stayed hot after netting a pair of goals in the season opener Thursday night. Late in the first period, he posted his third goal in as many days off a juicy rebound created by Tyson Foerster on the power play.

Cam York later potted his first goal of the season after a nice bank pass to himself off the boards as he entered the zone to get around Artem Zub.

Despite allowing five goals on 31 shots, Carter Hart was one of the Flyers' better players on the afternoon. In fact, Hart was the primary reason the Flyers weren't completely routed.

The Flyers return to action Tuesday night for their home opener against the Vancouver Canucks at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drops at 7 p.m. ET.
