Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports - Flyers land Oliver Bonk with No. 22 pick

After landing dynamic Russian winger Matvei Michkov with the No. 7 overall pick, the Philadelphia Flyers added a defenseman with their second pick of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

At No. 22, the Flyers selected Oliver Bonk from the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights.

Bonk was placed at No. 28 on TSN's Bob McKenzie's draft rankings.

Bonk is coming off a good season with the Knights. He posted 10 goals and 40 points in 67 games during the 2022-23 regular season and logged 11 more points (all assists) in 21 playoff games.

The Ottawa native has good size, measuring in at 6-foot-2 and 176 pounds. He's also a right-shot defender — a trait many NHL general managers value quite highly.

Bonk is a solid two-way defender who could compete for a middle-pairing role in the NHL one day. For the foreseeable future, though, he'll likely need additional seasoning with his junior club, and eventually in the American Hockey League, before making the leap to the NHL.
