One of the Philadelphia Flyers' veteran defensemen is expected to miss considerable time with an upper-body injury.

Marc Staal will reportedly be out 4-6 weeks, per Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period. He was placed on injured reserve Friday.

Staal, who signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Flyers in July, exited Thursday night's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers after crashing hard into the end boards with Edmonton forward Warren Foegele. Staal briefly stayed on the Flyers' bench following the collision, but walked up the tunnel to the locker room soon after.

With Staal out of action for the foreseeable future, two of the Flyers' young blueliners could be on track to see continued NHL usage. Egor Zamula has been strong to start the season, but was scratched for Thursday night's contest as the Flyers continue to rotate their group of young defensemen with Rasmus Ristolainen also on injured reserve.

Emil Andrae is also in position to see more reps, though it's clear he could benefit from a stretch in Lehigh Valley. He will draw into the lineup once again Saturday night after logging a minus-1 rating in 16:27 of ice time against the Oilers on Thursday.
