Mete joins the Flyers after splitting the 2022-23 season between the Maple Leafs and Marlies.
The Philadelphia Flyers have inked one of their top defenseman prospects, as well as a blueliner with NHL experience, to new contracts.
Wednesday morning, the Flyers announced defenseman Ronnie Attard signed a two-year contract worth $1.7 million ($850,000 AAV). They also signed 25-year-old defenseman Victor Mete to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000.
Mete, 25, joins the Flyers after splitting the 2022-23 season between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. He posted two points (both assists) in 11 games with the Maple Leafs and appeared in six games for the Marlies.
Mete was selected in the fourth round (No. 100 overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. He logged four goals and 34 points in 185 games over four seasons with the Canadiens.
Overall, Mete has registered a total of five goals and 45 points in 247 games between the Canadiens, Maple Leafs, and Ottawa Senators.
At 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds, Mete is a small, but speedy defenseman with scoring upside. He is likely to split time between the Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Attard, selected by the Flyers in the third round (No. 72 overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, will compete in training camp for an increased role in the NHL next season.
The 6-foot-3, 207-pound blueliner posted 12 goals and 32 points in 68 games for the Phantoms last season and appeared in a pair of games with the Flyers. Attard also earned a brief stint in the NHL toward the end of the 2021-22 season, logging two goals and four points in 15 games.
With Attard under contract, the Flyers now have four restricted free agents left to sign — Noah Cates, Morgan Frost, Olle Lycksell, and Cam York.
