This is the closest the Flyers have come to winning the Stanley Cup in nearly 50 years.
No Flyer has kissed the Stanley Cup since 1975, but Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce has.
He's pretty much an honorary Flyer, so that counts for something, right?
Thursday, the Eagles' All-Pro center posted photos of himself, decked out in Flyers gear, standing next to (and kissing) the Cup with his family. He even put his infant daughter inside the Cup, because of course he did.
So, why did Kelce, a football player, get to spend the day with the Cup? Well, it all harkens back to a debate Kelce had with his younger brother, Travis, on their renowned New Heights podcast.
Jason and Travis were discussing which trophy is the greatest in sports. Travis argued the Vince Lombardi Trophy was No. 1, but Jason vehemently declared Lord Stanley's Cup the trophy of all trophies.
Objectively, Jason is correct in his analysis.
The Stanley Cup has been in existence since 1894. It's nearly three feet tall and weighs roughly 35 pounds. And every player and coach who's ever won it has their name etched on the side of it forever.
Well, at least until the trophy runs out of room. Every 13 years, a ring on the Cup is removed and put on display in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Which is also very cool.
And last but not least, it's the only trophy in the world that is accompanied by a gang of bodyguards at all times.
That's just so metal.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy is cool in its own right. But compared to the Cup? There's really no debate to be had.
Lord Stanley reigns supreme.
