Tyson Foerster, one of the Flyers' top prospects, is being recognized for his stellar play in the AHL.
Flyers prospect Tyson Foerster is getting some high praise for his excellent play in the American Hockey League.
On Wednesday, Foerster was named to the AHL's inaugural Top Prospects Team, which honors the top young non-NHL players to have appeared in at least 36 regular-season AHL games and no more than 30 regular-season NHL games during the 2022-23 season.
Only AHL players who were 22 years old or younger on the first day of the regular season were considered for the Top Prospects Team.
Jesper Wallstedt (Minnesota Wild), David Jiricek (Columbus Blue Jackets), Simon Nemec (New Jersey Devils), Jiri Kulich (Buffalo Sabres), and Lukas Reichel (Chicago Blackhawks) were also named to the squad.
Foerster, selected in the first round (No. 23 overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, was outstanding throughout the season for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In 66 regular-season games, the 21-year-old logged 20 goals and a team-leading 48 points. He also posted three points in as many games during the postseason.
Foerster earned an eight-game stay with the Flyers in March, and he looked right at home in his brief run with the big club. Not only did he average close to a point per game in those appearances (three goals, four assists), but he even managed to win over Flyers head coach John Tortorella in his short stint in Philadelphia.
"Tyson continues to impress," Tortorella said of Foerster after his two-assist performance against the Florida Panthers on March 21.
"You can see his offensive skill, but the other parts of the game, it's been impressive. We have the power play with all the young kids on it, along with Tony (DeAngelo), so they're getting their opportunities, and a number of them are playing very well."
Foerster is expected to compete for a roster spot during training camp, and if he performs as well as he did during the 2022-23 season, it's hard to imagine him not suiting up in the Flyers' season-opener.
