Ville Koivunen, Rutger McGroarty, and Harrison Brunicke are the main young players that Pittsburgh Penguins fans are focused on going into training camp (and for good reason), but forward prospect Tristan Broz shouldn't be forgotten about.
Broz made his professional hockey debut with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2024-25 season, finishing with 19 goals and 37 points in 59 games. He also compiled one goal and three points in two playoff games before the Baby Penguins were eliminated.
Before that, he played for the University of Denver for two seasons and the University of Minnesota for one season. Broz even scored the game-winning goal for Denver against the University of Boston during the 2023-24 season to send his team to the national championship game.
Denver later beat Boston College by two goals (2-0) in the national championship game to win it all. Broz has a knack for showcasing his offensive ability in big games and will have a chance to do it again this year in WBS. That said, he is still someone to monitor at camp since he is one of the younger forwards who will push for a spot.
Even if he doesn't make the opening-night roster, there's still a world where he surprises fans and people inside the organization and potentially becomes a call-up option during the season if injuries start to occur.
He will get quite a bit of time during the preseason to show what he can do for head coach Dan Muse and Co.
