Despite traveling with team and getting closer to a return, Tristan Jarry will not yet make his return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup.
For the eighth straight game, Casey DeSmith will start in net for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they take on the New York Islanders on Long Island.
This is the first half of a back-to-back situation for the Penguins and at this moment it is unclear if Tristan Jarry will play in the second half.
Head coach Mike Sullivan stated that Jarry skated in the morning and is continuing to make progress.
While everyone is encouraged by the progress, Sullivan did not state whether or not Jarry will be back in goal for the second half of the back-to-back.
Sullivan said that Jarry is getting closer but isn’t quite there yet.
DeSmith will be taking the starting role for the eighth straight contest and is closing in on a career high for starts in a season.
The start against the Islanders will be DeSmith’s 26th, but four back of his peak at 30 in 2018-19.
With this being DeSmith’s 26th start, he also sits one start being Jarry for the season count.
Third string goalie Dustin Tokarski will continue to serve as backup and Jarry will not be dressed against the Islanders.
Sullivan also stated that defenseman Jan Rutta traveled with the team but will not play; forward Ryan Poehling and defenseman Mark Friedman did not travel with the Penguins.
Poehling and Friedman were both being evaluated for upper-body injuries.
