Here's how Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Pierce Mbuyi is doing to start the year.
It's been four months since the Pittsburgh Penguins selected forward Pierce Mbuyi in the third round of the 2026 NHL Draft.
It was a good pick, especially after Mbuyi lit up the OHL in 2025-26, finishing with 32 goals and 75 points in 68 games with the Owen Sound Attack. He was the OHL Rookie of the Year in 2024-25, when he scored 29 goals and totaled 52 points in 63 games.
Mbuyi is off to a great start to his third OHL season with 10 goals and 19 points in 14 games. He's the team captain and had a strong effort on Sunday, scoring two goals and finishing with three points.
He scored both goals against fellow Penguins prospect Matvei Nikonovich. Nikonovich is the goaltender for the OHL's Barrie Colts after making the move to North America this summer.
Mbuyi has done everything on a Sound Attack team that has really struggled to open the season. Through 14 games, they are last in the Western Conference with a 5-8-1 record.
He'll try to have another great season and help them rebound before heading to Penn State next season. He's still a ways away from being NHL-ready, but this is the next step of the process.
