The Pittsburgh Penguins walked away with an OTW, but it wasn't without a little controversy.
PITTSBURGH - Jeff Carter might have gotten away with a pretty questionable hit during the Pittsburgh Penguins overtime victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
While down by a goal in the third period, the Penguins were doing all they could to knot the game, and Carter may have had a lapse in discipline.
Avalanche All-Star defenseman Cale Makar was attempting to play the puck next to his own net when Carter skated past and blindsided Makar with a shoulder to the head.
Makar went down but no whistle was blown; when a stoppage in play finally occurred, Makar skated off on his own power and eventually went to the dressing room.
No penalty or action was taken against Carter and Makar did return to the game.
The Avalanche were not happy with Carter following their overtime loss; Makar himself said it was a blindside hit but the referee saw it a different way.
Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said what he saw was Carter skating right through Makar’s head.
As closer looks of the hit spilled onto the internet, people began to wonder if it was suspension worthy.
You never know with NHL Player Safety, but odds are nothing will happen to Carter.
Carter has no history of undisciplined play, no penalty was called at the time, and Makar returned to the game.
Those are usually pretty big factors in the decision making progress for the Department of Player Safety.
Regardless, Carter may have gotten away with one there; the play clearly left Makar dazed for a time and it was a shot to the head.
