Hours before their Kraft Hockeyville celebrations involving the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators, the Elliot Lake Centennial Arena was vandalized.

On Friday, discouraging news came out of Elliot Lake, ON, as East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police reported five suspects had broken into the Elliot Lake Centennial Arena and caused around $50,000 in damage.
As the 2024 Kraft Hockeyville contest winner, Elliot Lake won the grand prize of $250,000 CDN to upgrade its facility. In addition to the financial rewards, the NHL will host a pre-season contest in the area.
On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Penguins will face the Ottawa Senators at the Sudbury Community Arena in Sudbury, ON, about an hour and forty minutes east of Elliot Lake.
Although there are no confirmed leads regarding suspects, East Algoma OPP says the damage inside the rink is localized to the kitchen and canteen area and that some machinery was used to damage a structural beam.
Local authorities have requested that anyone with information about the incident step forward.
