Numerous teams from across the NHL are still eying a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins for Jake Guentzel.
PITTSBURGH – The day that was widely believed to be Jake Guentzel’s last with the Pittsburgh Penguins has passed, and he’s still in town. The Penguins are standing tall on their asking price, and the sense is that they are running an auction to see who the highest bidder will be.
Multiple teams are still in the hunt for the Penguins’ forward, even if multiple contending teams added big names already. According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, five teams are still in the mix.
Seravalli lists the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, and Vegas Golden Knights. The Rangers are a late addition to the conversation, but certainly, a team you can’t count out.
There is the belief that the Panthers and Canucks made big pushes but ended up unsuccessful to start. The Panthers added forward Vladimir Tarasenko earlier in the day, but might still have interest in Guentzel.
The Canucks also still have a great deal of interest in Guentzel, and could be willing to flip Elias Lindholm to a team in order to make a deal work. Sources have also stated that Vancouver would be Guentzel’s preferred destination.
Vancouver’s organization from top to bottom is loaded with former Penguins, and it would be an easy transition for Guentzel.
The race for Guentzel may have gone on longer than expected, but plenty of teams are still in the running.
