The Pittsburgh Penguins still have a foggy look when it comes to their goaltending, and John Gibson's name is again in the mix.

It’s obvious the Pittsburgh Penguins are in a little hot water when it comes to their goalie situation.

Tristan Jarry has been dealing with injuries since the Winter Classic, forcing the Penguins to utilize Casey DeSmith far more than expected.

With injuries keeping Jarry from the net and some volatile play from DeSmith, people have been curious about general manager Ron Hextall checking in on the goalie market for a trade.

Reportedly, the Penguins have shown interest in Cam Talbot from the Ottawa Senators and Thatcher Demko from the Vancouver Canucks has been lofted as an option.

While no goalie may be more of a fit than Jarry, a former broadcaster threw another name into the ring.

Pierre McGuire joined TSN 690 in Montreal and a question regarding John Gibson was asked and McGuire jumped all over the Penguins.

“The one thing to remember about Gibson, and this is important,” McGuire said. “There’s an injury situation in Pittsburgh.”

McGuire stated that he doesn’t have intel on the severity of Jarry’s injury, but noted the team needs to make the postseason.

“I don’t know how injured Jarry is or isn’t,” McGuire said. “But they got to make the playoffs."

If those are the aspirations for the Penguins, McGuire doesn’t believe Casey DeSmith is the right option as a starter.

Gibson reportedly requested a trade away from the Anaheim Ducks over a year ago, but is still coasting around with one of the worst teams in the NHL.

Not saying Pittsburgh is the right spot for Gibson, but he is from the area and you can tell there is still talent to be pulled there.

The Penguins saw Gibson and his skill first hand recently; sure, the Penguins scored six goals, but Gibson faced 59 shots and a number of his saves were tremendous.

Jarry seems to be nearing a return to the ice, so it’s likely Hextall isn’t sniffing around the goalie pool, but Gibson becomes another name to keep an eye on.
