Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ryan Reaves announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday.
Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ryan Reaves officially called it a career on Wednesday.
Reaves, who played for the Penguins during the 2017-18 season and compiled four goals and eight points in 58 games, announced his retirement via his official Instagram account. He played 16 NHL seasons and was one of the league's top enforcers.
"I never thought this day would come. I thought I was invincible. I thought I could play forever, but like all good things, it must come to an end. Today, I retire from the sport I’ve loved since I was 5 years old," Reaves wrote on Instagram. "It was a hell of a ride. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout this journey. There are too many to single out, so you’ll hear from me at some point."
"You can rest easy knowing the corners are a little safer today."
In addition to his time with the Penguins, he played for the St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs, and San Jose Sharks.
Reaves compiled 66 goals and 140 points in 962 NHL games.
