On July 1, the Pittsburgh Penguins traded forward Reilly Smith to the New York Rangers in exchange for two draft picks.
Last year, Smith's only season in Pittsburgh, he had 13 goals and 40 points in 76 games while averaging 16:08 a game.
So far in the Big Apple, Smith has just one point in two pre-season games, earning an assist in his second game on September 26 against the Boston Bruins.
The Rangers are 4-1 in five pre-season games, with only a rematch with the New York Islanders on the schedule. Considering the game takes place on Friday, just five days before the Opening Night contest against the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena, Smith will most likely draw into the lineup for his third contest.
In his first game against the Islanders (September 24), he played 17:53 and was plus-one with no shots on goal. Two nights later, against the Bruins, he skated 15:53 with a shot and two hits. His assist came on a Chris Kreider goal in the first period.
The 33-year-old Smith plays alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider on the Rangers second line.
