Two-time Stanley Cup champion Nick Bonino is still available on the free-agent market.

When browsing the remaining free agents available for NHL teams to sign, one of the veteran skaters who could end up on a professional try-out in the fall is former Pittsburgh Penguins center Nick Bonino.

Initially a San Jose Sharks draft pick in 2007, Bonino made his way to Pittsburgh in 2016 and won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles with the club in his only two seasons.

The 15-year veteran last skated in the league with the New York Rangers in 2023-24 before having his contract bought out in February.

His last game occurred against the team that drafted him, the Sharks, on Jan. 23.

On a stacked Rangers team that would eventually win the Presidents' Trophy, Bonino had only five points in 45 games and was minus-12.

Outside of his first stint in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks in 2009-10, where he skated in only nine games, the 2023-24 campaign marked the first time he didn't reach double digits in points.

Bonino is 36 and has 358 points in 868 games. Although there are no rumors that he is set to retire or step away, he's a prime candidate to land with a team that brings him to camp on a try-out offer.

Injuries and subpar performances will open the door for his NHL return.

If he doesn't find a new contract, he can retire with an NCAA National Championship, two World Championship Bronze Medals, and two Stanley Cup titles with the Penguins on his resume.
