Jeff Carter has officially been scratched from the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup for Vinnie Hinostroza.
After a few days of speculation, the Pittsburgh Penguins have finally made it official.
Veteran forward Jeff Carter has been healthy scratched from the Penguins lineup as they are set to take on the San Jose Sharks.
Carter and the rest of the fourth line are yet to record a point in the 2023-24 season and Vinnie Hinostroza is stepping in as replacement.
Hinostroza came in to Penguins training camp with a ton of momentum as he skated with Sidney Crosby on the first line.
Things simmered off for Hinostroza as camp and the preseason went along, eventually he was pushed to the AHL roster.
Carter’s lack of production has been holding the Penguins back from further success since at least last season and this scratch is a long time coming for many fans.
Hinostroza will make his Penguins debut and should be able to provide a punch of speed and offense to a fourth line desperate for production.
Defenseman P.O. Joseph has also returned to the lineup after being healthy scratched for the last five games.
Chad Ruwhedel comes out of the lineup in place of Joseph; Ryan Shea remains in, now playing on the right side.
