The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost a depth forward to the team they are set to face off against.
PITTSBURGH – The Montreal Canadiens have stepped in and claimed Colin White off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins. White played 11 games on the Penguins NHL roster this season and did not score a single point.
Before being recalled to the NHL roster, White spent most of the season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he played 21 games. An injury hampered part of the season, but White scored five goals and five assists at the AHL level.
White joined the Penguins entering the 2023-24 season on a professional tryout contract and eventually earned an NHL deal with the team. At first, it seemed like White could be a useful addition to the Penguins depth, but he wasn’t giving enough to stick in the lineup.
With Noel Acciari likely returning to the roster, the Penguins needed the roster space and White was first on the chopping block.
White won’t have to go far initially, as the Canadiens are already in Pittsburgh for a game against the Penguins. According to Eric Engels, the Canadiens will see White suit up for his team debut against the Penguins.
The Canadiens claimed White off waivers, but also placed Brandon Gignac on waivers.
