An insider has added a new detail to the injury status of Pittsburgh Penguins' forward Jake Guentzel.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have yet to make a decision regarding their star forward Jake Guentzel. With the trade deadline a week away, most signs have pointed towards the Penguins dealing Guentzel to finish his contract in another city.
Guentzel has been out of the lineup for a couple of weeks due to an upper-body injury suffered on Valentine’s Day. No further detail was given at the time, and Guentzel was placed on long-term injured reserve.
His move to LTIR means Guentzel is not eligible to return until two days after the trade deadline, but that hasn’t stopped teams from poking around the multi-time 40-goal scorer.
According to a new report from Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the injury isn’t severe, and recent speculation has identified more specifics. Seravalli states that Guentzel suffered a fractured finger against the Florida Panthers.
Seravalli says teams don’t believe this injury will impact his trade value, and the Penguins are still looking for a haul in return.
"The exact nature has been speculated to be a fractured finger," Seravalli writes. "Speaking with teams who are interested in the most impactful forward available, they don’t believe his value will be damaged by the time missed."
A recent loss to the Seattle Kraken didn’t seal the Penguins' fate of missing the postseason for the second year in a row, but it made the hill much more challenging to climb.
