The Wheeling Nailers, the Pittsburgh Penguins ECHL affiliate, are set to return to the postseason this spring.
The Nailers punched their ticket to the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Saturday night after beating Worcester Railers 2-1. This was their second-straight victory over the Railers after blanking them 4-0 on Friday night.
Wheeling's playoff opponent will be confirmed at a later date, as will the dates and times of the games.
Saturday's victory comes after Nailers goaltender Taylor Gauthier made history on Friday. He stopped all 34 shots in that game, giving him his 10th shutout as a Nailer. His 10 shutouts are now the most career shutouts in Nailers history, and he's also the winningest goaltender in team history.
The Nailers will try to sweep the weekend series against the Railers on Sunday when these two teams meet for a third time.
Puck drop is set for 4:10 p.m. ET.
