Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Carter Sanderson is lighting up the WHL to start the season.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward prospect Carter Sanderson is wasting no time with the WHL's Calgary Hitmen.

Sanderson, selected by the Penguins in the sixth round of the 2025 NHL Draft, already has five goals and eight points in three games with the Hitmen. He scored his fifth goal of the year on Sunday, coming off a three-on-two rush.

His fifth goal comes after he registered a hat trick on Saturday in just his second WHL game.

Sanderson has been on quite the run throughout 2026. He ended his 2025-26 season with 17 goals and 34 points in 54 games with the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks before lighting it up at the World Junior Summer Showcase.

He then had a strong development camp and followed that up with a good showing at the annual Prospect Tournament.

Sanderson is developing really well and if he keeps this up, he could make the Team USA World Junior team at the end of the year.

After this season, Sanderson is scheduled to go to the University of North Dakota for the 2027-28 season.
