Penguins Send Kindel, Rust To IR, Recall Two Players

The Pittsburgh Penguins made a series of roster moves on Thursday morning.

They put forwards Bryan Rust and Ben Kindel on injured reserve, while calling up forward Rutger McGroarty and defenseman Chase Pietila from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. 

Rust got hurt during Monday's 5-4 loss against the Utah Mammoth, while Kindel had a vasovagal episode on the team plane.

Penguins general manager/president Kyle Dubas told reporters Thursday that Kindel was given oxygen and regained consciousness after medical staff attended to him. He was later taken to the hospital before flying back to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Dubas remains hopeful that Kindel will return to practice next week.

Going back to McGroarty and Pietila, they have earned these recalls. McGroarty has been fantastic to start the season, scoring four goals and putting up nine points in six games. 

He knew the assignment was to go down there and dominate, and he did exactly that.

Pietila has two points (both assists) in five games to start the season and has been very reliable in his own zone. 

The Penguins will return to action on Thursday night against the Florida Panthers.
