In the return of the NHL All-Star Draft, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was taken by Nathan MacKinnon.

PITTSBURGH – With the third overall pick in the 2024 All-Star Draft, a team captained by Nathan MacKinnon took Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. It's well known that MacKinnon and Crosby are good friends and work out together during the offseason in their native Nova Scotia.

Crosby was not at the draft and is the lone Penguins representative at All-Star weekend. Despite not being at the draft, Crosby sent in a thank you video that was shown prior to the start of the draft.

When Crosby was selected, he was represented by a youth hockey player from the Tombits program.

Team MacKinnon was co-captained by Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar and pop star Tate McRea. Later in the draft, Team MacKinnon also chose Penguins rival, Washington Capitals' forward Tom Wilson.

After missing out on media availabilities and the Draft, Crosby is also not expected to participate in the All Star Skills Competition. He is expected to be present during the event, however, and will be on the ice for the official All-Star Game.

This is year was the 10th time in Crosby's career he was selected to an All-Star Game.
