On Wednesday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have signed Tanner Howe, their second-round pick (46th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft, to an entry-level contract.
Howe was the captain of the Regina Pats last season in the Western Hockey League, where he scored 28 goals and 77 points in 68 games.
During the 2022-23 season, he set career highs with 36 goals and 85 points.
Thus far, Howe, a native of Prince Albert, SK, has only played with Team Canada on three occasions. He's skated twice at the U18 World Junior Championships, where he earned a Bronze Medal, and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he earned a Gold Medal.
According to his Elite Prospects profile, Howe is slated to return to the Pats for the 2024-25 season. During his WHL career, he's netted 82 goals and 233 points.
Howe becomes the first Penguins 2024 draft class prospect to sign a deal with the team.
