Penguins Add Forward as Emergency Loan

The Pittsburgh Penguins may be dealing with injuries as they recall a forward on an emergency loan.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are reaching a point of no return with head coach Mike Sullivan.

PITTSBURGH – Ahead of their contest with the New Jersey Devils, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled a depth forward from the American Hockey League. Before their morning skate, the Penguins announced that Jonathan Gruden was recalled to the NHL roster.

Gruden was not in the lineup for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ most recent game against the Cleveland Monsters. However, he will join the team in New Jersey, and according to Cap Friendly, the move is being classified as an emergency loan.

With the move being on an emergency basis, the Penguins must have someone dealing with an injury. It isn’t clear who that may be at this moment.

The Penguins have seen Gruden at the NHL level for a handful of games this season. In 11 games, Gruden has averaged 8:49 of ice time and scored his first career goal against the Calgary Flames. Gruden has impressed the Penguins this season and has earned every chance he gets at the roster.

More information regarding Gruden’s recall and a possible injury may become apparent when the Penguins hit the ice in New Jersey. It's possible Gruden is called up and healthy scratched against the Devils. The Penguins just had a similar situation with Jack St. Ivany on defense.
