Steve Mears will stick around the Pittsburgh Penguins organization as the radio play-by-play voice.

Steve Mears will stick around the Pittsburgh Penguins organization as the radio play-by-play voice.

Not long after the Pittsburgh Penguins and Fenway Sports Group announced they would be taking over AT&T SportsNet, they began making changes to their on-screen lineup of announcers.

Penguins play-by-play announcer Steve Mears and color commentator Bob Errey were let go by the organization.

While the future is still uncertain for Errey, Mears has already landed on his feet and will continue broadcasting in Pittsburgh.

It was announced by the Penguins that Mears will make the move to the radio booth and become the play-by-play broadcaster for the Penguins Radio Network.

Mears will be joined by color commentator Phil Bourque and pre/post-game host Paul Steigerwald.

With Mears moving to the radio booth, Josh Getzoff seems to be getting the TV role.

According to Rob Rossi of the Athletic, Getzoff will become the next Penguins TV play-by-play voice and his partner is still being decided.

Nothing has been made official regarding the TV broadcast positions and the new ‘SportsNet Pittsburgh’ is set to transition on October 2.
