The Pittsburgh Penguins expect great things from their top prospect who is showing to be a leader on the ice.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins not only have a highly skilled prospect in Brayden Yager, but the most recent first-round draft pick is also a true leader. For the second straight year, the Penguins’ top prospect has been awarded the Brad Hornung Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s sportsmanlike player of the year.

Yager finished his regular season with the Moose Jaw Warriors, recording a career-high 35 goals and 95 points while only notching 20 penalty minutes in 57 games. This is Yager’s second straight year winning the award as the Warriors are battling for the right to take part in the Memorial Cup Tournament.

“It’s an honour to receive this award for the second time,” Yager said. “I’d like to congratulate the other division winners on their amazing seasons, I’d also like to take the time to thank my coaching staff here in Moose Jaw, my teammates and the entire organization of the Moose Jaw Warriors for all the support to help me get to where I am today.”

Yager was also the recipient of the Canadian Hockey League’s most sportsman like player award last year. He is the sixth player in WHL history to ever win the Hornung Trophy in back-to-back seasons.

The Penguins have high expectations for Yager and he may fight for a role on the NHL roster as soon as this upcoming season if he puts together a good training camp.
