
The Pittsburgh Penguins have seen Evgeni Malkin get off the a hot start to the 2023-24 season.
In the opening week of the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins secured a 2-1-0 record and have been led by their veteran core.
One of those Penguins’ core leaders, was recognized by the NHL as a top player of the week.
The NHL announced that Evgeni Malkin was named the third Star of the Week after the first seven days of the season.
In three games played, Malkin recorded a pair of goals and four assists for six points which puts him in a four-way tie for most in the NHL.
Penguins’ forward Jake Guentzel is also in that tie with a goal and five assists.
The other two players in the four-way race were the other two names recognized by the NHL as the first and second stars of the week.
Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews was named the first star with six goals in the first two games of the season.
Vancouver Canucks’ Elias Pettersson was named the second star for a one goal, five assist week.
Malkin has been leading the Penguins by example with his hot start and already showing a great chemistry with his new linemate in Reilly Smith.
