The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the favorites to land a veteran star from the Carolina Hurricanes.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the postseason for two straight seasons and don’t want to make it a third. In the final years of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, the Penguins look to give their future Hall of Famers one last chance to cement themselves among the greatest of all time.
President and general manager Kyle Dubas might have to take some big swings to make that final charge at the Stanley Cup happen. The Penguins must focus on some of the top names available on the free agent market or through trades.
According to betcarolina.com, the Penguins are among the favorites to land Carolina Hurricanes forward Teuvo Teravainen. Set to become a free agent, the Penguins have been given +950 odds (9.5%) of signing Teravainen.
In 11 NHL seasons, Teravainen has morphed into a solid middle six wing option for any successful team. In 670 career games played between the Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks, he’s scored 155 goals and 304 assists for 459 points.
Already a Cup champion with the 2014-15 Blackhawks, Teravainen could be looking to cash out for possibly his final big paycheck in the NHL. He’ll be 30 before the 2024-25 season starts, and his last contract paid him $5.4 million annually.
The versatile winger can play up and down the lineup and could pair well next to Crosby or Malkin. If they need him to, the Penguins could probably get away with slotting him in on the third line to add scoring to the bottom six.
