PITTSBURGH – It didn’t take long after his departure from the Pittsburgh Penguins for Jake Guentzel to make a difference with the Carolina Hurricanes. A day before the trade deadline, the Penguins dealt Guentzel to the Hurricanes where he’s expected to be a huge help in their playoff push.

In three games with the Hurricanes, Guentzel has three assists, including a big game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. While it won’t be credited as a goal on his stat sheet, Guentzel scored the game-winner in a shootout. After picking up a pair of power play assists during regulation, Guentzel was the Hurricanes’ third shooter, and a nifty move secured the victory.

Guentzel was the only player from either squad to score in the shootout, giving the Hurricanes a 5-4 win. In his attempt, Guentzel faked the shot with a leg pump and slipped it through Ilya Samsonov’s legs.

Guentzel’s goal finalized a comeback victory for the Hurricanes as the Maple Leafs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second period. Helped along by a pair of power play goals, both assisted by Guentzel, the Hurricanes crawled their way back for the win.

The Hurricanes are 2-1-0 with Guentzel in their lineup as he skates on their second line with Martin Necas and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Guentzel returns to Pittsburgh for his first matchup against the Penguins on March 26.
