Penguins Kick-Off Celebration for Jaromir Jagr

The celebration for Pittsburgh Penguins legend Jaromir Jagr has officially begun.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton would be a perfect fit for the Pittsburgh Penguins bottom six.

PITTSBURGH – At long last, the Pittsburgh Penguins are set to honor and celebrate franchise icon Jaromir Jagr properly with a retirement ceremony of his iconic number 68. However, before the jersey can be risen to the rafters, the city and the Penguins have kicked off a weekend of celebrations.

The Penguins got the ball rolling by holding a roundtable with Jagr and multiple former teammates. Hosted by Paul Steigerwald, Kevin Stevens, Jay Caufield, and Phil Bourque were on hand to tell stories and talk with Jagr about his time with the Penguins and the rest of his hockey career, which is still active.

At 52, Jagr is still a professional hockey player in his native Czechia, where he plays with his hometown Kladno Knights. Jagr is also the owner of the Knights.

The Penguins say the entire roundtable recording will be broadcast on Sportsnet Pittsburgh.

The city of Pittsburgh also got in on the fun of celebrating one of the greatest players in Penguins’ history, as Mayor Ed Gainey proclaimed February 16, 2024, will be Jaromir Jagr Day. Jagr will have his jersey retired the day the city will be dedicated to him.

When Jagr’s number officially heads to the rafters of PPG Paints Arena, it’ll be one of the most memorable days in Penguins’ history. No matter how the year goes for the Penguins, it will also be one of the season's biggest highlights.
